Juva - Sulkava canoeing route

The total length of the great route suitable for canoeing with the family is 57km. It is recommended to set aside two to three days for paddling this distance. The starting point of the route is at Juva Camping, and the end point is in Sulkava, at the boating centre Kulkemus. Naturally, it is possible to paddle only a shorter part of the route. The “Squirrel route” is Finland's first biologically studied water nature trail, marked in the terrain. Along the route there are rivers, small rapids, and lakes.

The route now has a new extension from Ala-Matkus to Partala.

Vilkaharju Nature Paths

Vilkaharju Nature Paths

The Vilkaharju nature path introduces the handsome ridge scenery with its fauna and flora, geology and history. Along the nature path, there is one of the largest erratic boulders in Finland. The path has two parts. The length of part I is 3.1km, and the length of part II is 3.6km. Each part can be walked separately. There are tourist map guides along the paths, providing information about the significance of the forest now and in the past. There is more information about the paths on the so-called start board, located in the parking area, at the intersection of a road to Hopeasaari.

Disc Golf

There is a disc golf course of 18 holes built in the surrounding areas of the sports hall in the town centre. The course has 2 tracks, and the length is about 2,000 meters. You may rent discs at the library, and at the household appliance shop, Sulkavan TV ja Kodinkone T. Kemppinen, at Alanteentie 32, who also sell discs.  Route Map  and Rules.

The Lohilahti disc golf course has 9 holes; skillful players prefer this short but narrow course.

Skiing Tracks

The Kukkomäki skiing tracks provide a nice setting for skiing, offering routes of various lengths, some portions of these routes are lit. In addition, there is a short, lit track that runs around the sports field and the jogging track.

There are skiing tracks in the surroundings of the sports hall, including a longer track route towards Saarilampi (Juva), with an old hut along the route for taking a break. You may also start from the starting point at the bay of Tuonilahti, near the prison. There will also be skiing tracks made on the ice of Alanne, weather permitting.

Geocaching

Sulkava Geocaches Geocaching is an outdoor activity, where containers called geocaches are hidden outdoors or in a built environment. The geocaches contain a logbook and a pen, and possibly something small to exchange.

Sulkava Lure Fishing Area

The joint permit area of the Sulkava lure fishing area offers 16,000 hectares for lure fishing enthusiasts.
In the village centre, lure fishing permits are sold by Sulkavan Verkko ja Paita shop, as well as the Alanteen Helmi kiosk in Vekara, and the Lohilahti Neste gas station in Lohilahti.
The price of the permit is 65 euros for the fishing season, 50 euros for a month, 40 euros for a week, and 25 euros for three days.
The permit can also be paid directly to the lure fishing area’s account, at the Sulkava Osuuspankki bank, using the account number FI68 5437 0420 0016 55. In the message field of the payment, enter the message saying, “Sulkavan viehekalastusmaksu” (Sulkava lure fishing payment) and the preferred starting date of the permit. Fishing limitations: trout and freshwater trout without adipose fin only. Minimum sizes, including char: 60cm. No limits regarding the fishing rods.
